Model Submarines invade Brockwell Lido
Sunday October 12th and Sunday November 2nd
Model submariners invaded Brockwell Lido for the first time this winter.
12 different subs took part in trials in the cold clear waters of the Brockwell Sea.

BLU AGM

Thanks so much if you attended and for your feedback - your comments, gripes and congratulations are so important. Recommendations made at this meeting will be taken forward by BLU to the Brockwell Lido Steering Group on your behalf and built into the service delivery plan for next year.

The Big Draw at Brockwell Lido
Sunday September 28th
In conjunction with Brockwell Park Brockwell Lido took part in the big draw. From 3.00pm you could visit Brockwell Lido to see the artwork created by lido users over the summer with artists Claire Collison, Janetka Platun and Elena Tognoli. Visitors also had the chance to add their own creative message in a bottle to Janetka Platun's very special floating archive about life at the Lido. At 6.00pm we going to light up all the bottles and floated them out on the surface of the pool to mark the end of the swimming season.

Open House at Brockwell Lido
Saturday September 20th
In conjunction with BLU Brockwell Lido will again be taking part in Open House London. There will be guided tours around the site and visitors will have a chance to learn about the Lido's history, see the alterations made in the 2007 renovation and see how the rebuild complements the original architecture of the building. The first tour is at 10.00am and the last is at 4.00pm. Drop-in family activities will run from 11.00am until 3.00pm.

Aquathlon at Brockwell Lido
Sunday September 14th
In conjunction with Triathlon England and Lambeth Council Brockwell Lido held its first aquathlon. There were three categories: Youth (100m Swim 1000m Run) Adult (200m Swim 2000m Run) and Experienced (400m Swim 7000m Run)

I Don't Like Water - Artist Elena Tognoli at Brockwell Lido
August
During August artist Elena Tognoli was playing games at the poolside - painting over shadows, drawing in the water and encouraging lido users to make artwork that will be part of a fun step-by-step users manual to Brockwell Lido for people who don't like water.

Message in a Bottle - Artist Janetka Platun at Brockwell Lido
July
Throughout July, artist Janetka Platun was inviting the public to create an installation at the lido. “Messages in a Bottle” will feature lido visitor’s own words, drawings, paintings or images about the pool, encapsulated individually in over one thousand sealed bottles. The messages will be set adrift to create a floating visual narrative of life at the lido from the past to the present.

Synch or Swim? - Artist Claire Collison at Brockwell Lido
June
This June lido users joined artist Claire Collison for a month of dip-in, dive by activities to celebrate those glamorous days when the lido's turnstiles first spun. We hadswimming-cap customisation, photosensitive paper, kaleidoscope making and the chance to try out some only-just-synchronised swimming.

A Midsummer Night's Swim
June 21st 7.00pm-10.00pm
The chance to come and swim through the sunset on the longest day of the year; we opened for a special late-evening swim from 7.00pm-10.00pm on Saturday June 21st - barbeque, music and the chance to watch dusk fall over the water.

Junior Open House
May 21st 2008
Open House teamed the Lido up with pupils from a local primary school and they came to explore the Lido with Jo Edwards, an architect from PTEA, as research for a project they're doing about designing sustainable sports buildings for an alternative olympic sport of their choice.

London College of Communication
May 6th, 9th and 16th 2008
Students from LCC came to the Lido several times as it filled up to think about what kind of place it is and how they could respond to it and represent it in an artwork. There's a chance that some of their finished pieces might be displayed at the lido late in the month.

The Modern Movement: Architecture, Design, Ideology
May 3rd and 4th 2008

Brockwell Park Sketching Group
Monday February 25th 2008
Brockwell Park Sketching Group meets every Monday at 1pm at the Cafe in Brockwell House. They split up to sketch and then re-group in the Cafe at 3pm to discuss their work. On Monday February 25th they came to sketch at the Lido. You can find out more about the Sketching Group and their activities from the noticeboards in the Cafe in Brockwell House.

Chelsea College of Art
Saturday February 2nd 2008
During December and January students from Chelsea College of Art worked at the lido as part of their volunteering elective. They then planned and ran a workshop on Saturday February 2nd for members of the public that explored how the lido could inspire a you to make a work of art.

London College of Communication

On Monday January 14th graphics students from London College of Communication came to the Lido to do a creative research morning about sound and how it travels around a space.

Brockwell Icicles

At mid-day on mid-winter's day we revived the tradition of winter swimming at Brockwell Lido. Up until the 70s a swimming club called the Brockwell Icicles swam at the lido and in order to become a member you had to swim on a day when there was ice on the pool. There was no ice this year, but over 70 swimmers, including one original icicle, took the plunge and BLU warmed them up afterwards with hot drinks and mince pies.

Water And Trees
Saturday December

This workshop was a collaboration with Theresa Hoare, the Development and Education Officer for Brockwell Park, and in it people drew inspiration from the trees in Brockwell Park and the water in the lido to make a wintertime decoration that could hang from a tree or float on a pool. The decorations were then diplayed in Brockwell House at the Friends of Brockwell Park Winter Fayre the following day.

Summer Swimmers 2007
Despite the patchy weather we had a great summer season with large numbers of visitors coming to enjoy the newly refurbished Lido in all its glory. So we'd just like to say a big thank you to all our guests, and remind you that our great new Health-Vitality-Wellbeing facilities are open and you're all welcome to share the Lido magic all year round.
